Michele "Mickey" Eliason, PhD

| Michele J. Eliason, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Education at San Francisco State University whose research focuses on the health of stigmatized groups and examines factors that may relate to healthy life adjustment, including the potential impact of health care systems on diverse peoples’ physical and mental health and well-being.
Over the past 15 years, her research has focused on substance use and abuse among adult women, LGBT health and health care provider attitudes, sexual identity development, and the educational needs of nurses regarding LGBT health.
Dr. Eliason recently served as Director of Research and Education for the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) in San Francisco, and is currently the Director of Research and Evaluation for Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc.
Dr. Eliason authored several LGBT-TRISTAR Best Practices Reports: 2008's The Importance of Collecting Data Relevant to Sexuality and Gender: Written Forms, 2009's Best Practices for Lesbian/Bisexual Women with Substance Use Disorders, and 2010's Environmental Prevention Strategies to Address LGBT Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Use.
