Shawn Griffin


Shawn Griffin

Shawn Griffin is a skilled trainer, researcher and organizer with broad knowledge of nuances within various communities including cultures based on gender, ethnic background and sexual orientation.  He has experience writing curricula, creating evaluation tools to measure increase in knowledge by training participants, and marketing trainings.  He has developed and facilitated staff trainings ranging from two to eight hours on numerous topics including “Effective Communications Across Cultures” and “Understanding Diversity” for teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District; “Methamphetamines” for the Social Model for Recovery program; and “Social Marketing,” “Social Networking” and “Cultural Competency” for AIDS Project Los Angeles.

From 1993 – 2000, Mr. Griffin served as Project Coordinator of the Gay Men of Color Consortium in Los Angeles, providing culturally competent HIV and AIDS services and information indigenous to and targeting communities of color.  He served on the Cultural Diversity Panel at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s International Conference in Atlanta in 1996, presented on “Designing Treatment Programs for Gay Men of Color” at the US Conference on AIDS in Miami 1997, and presented on “Cultural Diversity” at the US Conference on AIDS in Dallas in 1999. 

Mr. Griffin has extensive experience developing and providing focus groups in the healthcare/social service area with underrepresented cultural communities, including work with the Gay Men of Color Consortium, the Asian Pacific HIV Task Force, BIENESTAR, the Black Gay and Lesbian Leadership Forum, the Minority AIDS Project, and the Latino Gay Men’s Study.  He also served as a Presentation Consultant for the Los Angeles Department of Social Services, and as Program Consultant to the National Black Gay and Lesbian Leadership Forum.

As a current field manager with Nielsen National Research group, a Fortune 500 leader in the area of market research, Mr. Griffin is responsible for recruiting, selecting and screening participants for a variety of focus groups, developing focus group tools, facilitation, and qualitative analysis.
